Classes

The Schedule

09:00 - 10:30 : Registration. You must arrive and register by 10:30 AM. If pre-registered, you must check-in and pay your fees by 10:30 AM
 
09:00 - 09:30 : BSA Merit badge clinic  Find out more.
 
09:30 - 09:45 : Beginner's clinic. Additional clinics may be held if there is a need and an instructor is available.
 
10:00 - 12:00 : Competitor's start the course, 1 person every minute on each course. No starts will be allowed after 12:00 except where the number of participants on a course requires additional start times
 
10:00 - 02:00 : Competitor's on the course. Every person must return to finish and check in by 02:00 PM.
 
02:00 - 02:30 : Award Ceremony. Or as soon as results are tallied after 02:00 PM.
 
02:00 - 04:00 : Control Marker Pickup. Get extra experience. Volunteer to pick up a few control bags.

Equipment: Wear comfortable running shoes or hiking boots, long pants or long nylon running pants for protection against underbrush, eyewear to protect against branches, a watch as there is a time limit (3 hours unless noted otherwise), a whistle to call for help, and a compass. The compass should be protractor-style with a clear baseplate that can be purchased at many outdoor and sporting-goods stores for $10-$15.

Water:Water will be available at the start, finish and at locations on the course. However, all participants are highly encouraged to carry water to prevent dehydration.

Step 1: Registration

Online registration is highly encouraged. The number of maps with preprinted courses is based upon Online registration numbers. Day of race registrants may be required to hand draw their courses on a blank map.

The number of registatrations allowed for this venue is NOT limited by the landowner. NTOA has placed limits to keep event to a manageable size. Those limits are high enough that they have historically allowed everyone to participate. Use the following link to see the limits and the available slots for the event and for each course.

Team or Individual?

Individual Competitor:
Any participant that plans to complete the course on their own and without assistance. When completing the registration form, select Male or Female when asked for a competitor type.

Recreational Team:

Two to Five participants that will complete the course together. They will assist each other with map reading and with navigation. Examples include: families, groups of Scouts, adventure racing teams, and any novices who would like to work together.

To register as a team use the Recreational Team registration form.

Entering Competitive Individuals

Use the Large Group registration form.

The contact person for the school should
  • Enter the Contact's first name, last name and email address.
  • In the Group Name drop-down, select the name of your school (if it is listed).
    If your school is NOT listed, Choose Other School.
  • Enter information for each student participating as a Competitive Individual, one person per line.

Entering Recreational Teams

Use the Recreational Team registration form.

The contact person for the school should

  • Enter the Contact's first name, last name and email address.
  • In the Group Name drop-down, select the name of your school (if it is listed).
    If your school is NOT listed, Choose Other School.
  • Enter a team name.
  • Enter information for each of the team members.
  • A recreational team requires a minimum of 2 participants. As many as 5 participants are allowed.

Once you have submitted all the entries for the school

  • Return to the main Registration page,
  • Scroll down and click on Entrants by Group.
  • If you don't see your group listed, or there is an error, please send an email to registrar@ntoa.com.




Help for Scouts

Because Scouts must orienteer in teams (buddy system) we recommend registering the team by a special name, along with your troop designation.

Good examples are: Troop 66 Eagles, Troop 945 Team 1, etc, ...

Entering Recreational Teams

Use the Recreational Team registration form.

The contact person for the school should

  • Enter the Contact's first name, last name and email address.
  • In the Group Name drop-down, select "BSA -- All Troops" for Boy Scouts or "GSA -- All Troops" for Girl Scouts.
  • Enter a team name.
  • Enter information for each of the team members.
  • A recreational team requires a minimum of 2 participants. As many as 5 participants are allowed.

Once you have submitted all the entries for the troop

  • Return to the main Registration page,
  • Scroll down and click on Entrants by Group.
  • If you don't see your troop listed, or there is an error, please send an email to registrar@ntoa.com.




Families and other groups (e.g., friends, corporate teams, ...)

If you want to Enter as Competitive Individuals

Use the Competitive Indivudual registration form.

For each person running as an individual
  • Enter a first name, last name and email address.
  • In the Group Name drop-down, select the the group to which you belong (or Select Other Group).
    If your Group is NOT listed, Choose Other Group.
  • Enter the remaining information for the person.
  • Submit the form.
  • Use the form once for each person.

If you want to Enter as Recreational Teams

  • Enter the Contact's first name, last name and email address.
  • In the Group Name drop-down, select the the group to which you belong (or Select Other Group).
    If you are not a member of any of the groups, Choose Other Group.

Directions

From DFW Airport To Lake Texoma:
  • From the airport take the north exit on 121.
  • Exit onto LBJ Freeway (IH635) after about 1 mile.
  • Take 635 about 20 miles to Central Expressway (IH 75).
  • At the "high five" interchange take IH 75 all the way to Sherman-Denison
  • Go west 5 miles on 120 to Pottsboro and then continue west on 996.
  • From here o-signs will direct you to the All Saints Camp headquarters.

Meet Director Notes

The Red River Ramble is one our premier NTOA orienteering events. I personally think it has some of the most interesting terrain of all of our meets with the lake, flowing streams, and spectacular terrain with ridges, hills, many cliffs and deep creeks, different vegetation, etc

This year's event should be fun with Wayne Chaffin being our course setter and trying to take us around different areas - while trying to avoid the high water levels in the lake and the creeks/streams.

One important note - The fee to go onto Camp All Saints has increased this year to $5.50 per person AND the camp is requiring us to charge those fees for EVERYONE who comes onto the camp whether they orienteer or not. I.e. we will have to charge for everyone who comes into the camp - whether bus driver, parent, coach, or meet worker, etc.

I'm going to eat the difference between the camp entry fees and what we budgeted into our competition fees for this season (so we can use our existing NTOA.com registration program as is) - but we are going to have to charge all the non-participants a $5 entry fee (we will eat the 50 cents just to make collecting the fees easier at registration). We will have someone stationed at the entrance to count how many people are in each car and how many are orienteers and how are non-orienteers. We ask that after you drive in that you then pay for the non-orienteers at the Orienteering registration tent.

There is plenty of parking but you may have to search for a space.
