Arbor Hills
Meet Director Notes

Welcome

Welcome to the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve O-meet.

Headquarters and Registration

Headquarters will be at the same location as previous years just West of the main parking lot.

Registration will open at 9:00 AM and close promptly at 10:30 AM, so don't be late. Here is where you will check in, pay fees, turn in waivers, receive your punch card, and get your start time. For Brown and Green course participants, this is where you will also pick up your e-punch finger stick and download your data after the race. Finish results for all classes will be posted close by.

Special Conditions at this venue

NTOA strives to offer orienteering to the general public as well as students of any age at our events. Our one-day meets can draw as many as 400 people of all ages and expertise. However, this success can come at a price. We become so overwhelmed that our meet operations do not always go as smoothly as we would like. Further, the number of participants can overwhelm the venue just as much as us

Our events take place at city parks, state parks and Boy Scout ranches. We must remember that we are guests at these places and therefore, we have a responsibility to take care of those areas where we visit and abide by any rules that are presented to us. Such is the case with our Arbor Hills meet. To be precise, this event is being held at the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Plano, Texas. Under the auspice of the Parks Department of Plano, this area is a nature preserve with some environmentally sensitive areas. The city of Plano is chartered to balance environmental preservation with the use of the area by the public.

Our desire to use the area for our event has presented some organizational challenges to both NTOA and the Parks Department. The City of Plano is happy for us to use the area but under certain conditions. Therefore, some restrictions have been placed upon our event (or self imposed restrictions) to which we must adhere.

  • The total number of participants running in the event will be limited to 150.

  • The number of participants per course will be limited. Once the course limit number has been reached then that course will be closed to further registrations. This is the meet directors' choice. The alternative was first come first serve. But this would favor those who can pre-register earlier than others. I ask that schools limit their own numbers per course in order that others may register.

  • All school buses and large vehicles must park in the back parking lot. Students can be dropped off near the pavilion but the buses must not park in the main lot. Directions will be provided. The lot is only 200 meters or so from the pavilion area.
  • Port-a-potties will be set up in that back parking lot per City instructions. We must use those instead of the main facilities. The main restrooms may be closed anyway.

All in all, none of these limitations can prevent us from having a quality meet. I look forward to seeing you there.
